Manggarai culture which stand their belief on the spirit of the ancestors, the strong familiarity as social patrilineal community having a uniqueness which in modern era have to face the change and adaptation either in physic and non-physic culture. Manggarai people nowdays can describe as “society in transition”, a transition caused by touch of  a new cultural system, especially in the changing believing system (religion) and also science and technology effect which open the Manggaraian people with world outside, an  introduction to modern building material which all have change the ‘face’ of their architecture from primitive culture to a traditional vernacular culture.

Globalization era in term of traditional architecture of Manggaraian people should put in todays awareness, the spirit of development of sustainable architecture, which means adaptation to modernity without losse their local knowledge. To create architecture design which uses natural resources wisely.

Abstract

Studio is a core subject in Department of Architecture. The importance of the subjects based on studio in Department of Architecture is to make students feel and practice designing based on bench marking of the tasks that given to them intensely.

The products of their designs that have been done in certain period (usually one semester) haven’t yet been optimizing. The basic failures in designing process usually happens and it causes the aim of the studio that can give them experiences in designing is not optimize.

The implementation of Studio has difficulties. The length of the implementation needs high concentration of the students, good stamina of the team teaching and students, qualified equipments and also the ineffective culture of studio that has been implemented. Some of the ineffective culture in Studio that has been a myth, based on The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) in 2002 that has been stated in their working paper, The American Institute of Architecture Students Task Force Report (2002) named The Redesign of Studio Culture, is not suitable to be implemented anymore.

The products of their designs which are not optimize, finally will point the bargaining of the graduation after they come to the real working market as an Architect Graduation Student. This situation is also come to the free trade market era of workers.

Team of Competitive Grant Program (PHK) A2 in Department Architecture of Pancasila University, has done a research about the culture in Studio, especially in Designing Studio and Final Task. The research is about how the statement in the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) about the Myth of Culture in Studio happens. The result of the research can be proven significantly based on the low quality of the students who registered in that department influenced their capacity in the designing process in studio. This result will be an input to make a better teaching and learning methods in studio. The capacity of the students will be main factor that support the success of the implementation of studio. The renovation of this method will be the important program of Grant Competition Program (PHK) A2 in Department Architecture of Pancasila University during 2007 – 2009.

Design in architecture is always influenced by sense and sensitivity or aesthetic for its product. The basic of aesthetic is sense of beautiful. In designing and construction field, aesthetic is similar with luxurious  and  luxurious  that  influence  market  requirement.  This  condition  brings  big  effect  into architecture  students  perception,  especially  when  they  propose  their  project  of  thesis.  They  dont realize  that  after  their  graduation  will  face  the  truth  condition  in  life,  not  only  exclusivist  but  also poverty. We must realize that Indonesia is under developed country and most of us still not expect high sense of exclusivist market product of building. This paper is written to analyze that hypothesis uses  the  title  of  students  thesis  in  Architecture  Department  of  Pancasila  University  last  five  years. Their titles of thesis are categorized in several criteria. Depth analyzes is also used to know the cause that   support   the   tendency.   This   paper   will   be   hoped   to   help   educational   of   architecture   in accommodate their graduation to the real life; not only luxurious life but social life also through human touch method.
