Can Psychological Capital Predict Affective Commitment among Generation Y in Indonesia?
Abstrak

 

The present study investigated the role of psychological capital to affective commitment. Affective commitment is employee’s emotional attachment to, identification with, and involvement in the organization. Psychological capital is positive psychological state of development and is characterized by self efficacy, optimism, hope, and resiliency. To researcher’s knowledge, this is the first study to examine the role of psychological capital on affective commitment by using Indonesian generation Y as participants. They were 233 male and female employees who were varied in age, job level, employment status, tenure, educational background,  and work location. Data was gathered by using two measures: psychological capital and affective commitment scale. Previous studies in other countries have proven that psychological capital could significantly predict affective commitment both in terms of statistical and practical implication point of view. Interestingly, this study revealed that psychological capital significantly predict affective commitment in statistical point of view but not in practical implication. Regression analysis reported that psychological capital contribute only 2% to affective commitment among Indonesian generation Y. Theoretical and practical suggestions for next researcher are discussed.

Mindfulness and Work Engagement among Generation Y
Abstrak

 

One of the emerging concepts in occupational health psychology today is work engagement. The present study investigates work engagement among generation Y and its correlation to mindfulness. Work engagement is positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind that is characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption. Mindfulness is present moment awareness with an observing and non-judging stance. This is the first study to examine the correlation between mindfulness and work engagement among generation Y, specifically in Indonesia. Participants of this study are 251 male and female generation Y working in some cities across Indonesia. They are 18 to 36 years old and they are varied in educational background as well as in job tenures. Data is gathered using two scales, namely Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale. Regression analysis reported that mindfulness contributes 2 percent to work engagement. Mindfulness is found to relate positively with work engagement (r= .142). Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

THE EFFECT OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF THE IMPELLER TO THE PERFORMANCE 2 OF PUMP AS TURBINE PICO POWER PLANT
Abstrak

Pump as Turbine (PAT) is one of a hydropower plant that applies a pump with a reversed flow, working as a turbine to generate electrical power. It has the advantages of low-cost, widely available in the market and user-friendly. However, like other hydropower plants, PAT technology has low performance in term of power output. The impeller surface roughness is one of critical aspect, which influences PAT performance because poor surface roughness causes losses and cavitation. The objective of the research is to increase the PAT performance by improving the quality of the surface roughness and validate by the experimental tests. A low-cost and customize hand grinding process was applied to produce five impellers with three different levels of surface roughness (average surface roughness of 0.16 mm, 0.24 mm, and 0.40 mm), an edge rounded impeller, and a varnish lacquer coated impeller. All of the impellers undergo performance testing. The performance of the original impeller (without modification) used as a comparison. The experiment result shows that an impeller with a lower surface roughness (lower Ra number) has a higher performance. An impeller with an average surface roughness of 0.16 mm improved 10.9% of its initial performance. Additional edge rounding for a 0.16 mm surface roughness impeller would improve its performance by 13.1%.  The optimum turbine efficiency of 15.45% was achieve-able by implementing an impeller with the lowest surface roughness.

Abstrak

Sebuah alat Deteksi Pemakaian Tenaga Listrik Terhadap Deviasi kWh Meter Berbasis

Mikrokontroller dibuat karena adanya kelainan pada KWh meter yang disengaja maupun yang tidak

disengaja yang berpengaruh terhadap nilai KWh meter. Meskipun pemeriksaan KWh meter dilaksanakan

secara rutin melalui kegiatan Penertiban Pemakaian Tenaga Listrik (P2TL) untuk upaya memerangi deviasi

KWh meter. Namun kenyataan di lapangan, pelaksanaan P2TL dalam pemeriksaan KWh meter ini kurang

optimal dikarenakan SDM yang bertugas di lapangan belum memahami penghitungan deviasi KWh meter.

Alat ini dibuat untuk memudahkan mengetahui adanya deviasi pada KWh meter dari sisi pelanggan

pascabayar maupun prabayar, dan untuk membantu petugas P2TL menganalisa adanya kelainan pada KWh

meter. Metode ini dilakukan dengan cara membaca menghitung jumlah kedipan impuls pada kWh meter

sebagai parameter daya dan dibandingkan dengan pembacaan sensor tegangan dan arus sebagai parameter

daya. Dari melakukan pengujian sensor tegangan mendapatkan error rata-rata sebesar 2.74 %, pengujian

sensor arus sebesar 7.1% dan pengujian deviasi pada pengawatan normal sebesar 5.9 % serta pengujian

deviasi pada pengawatan tidak normal sebesar 92.01 %.
