Antioxidant activity of white and red cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.var capitata L.) using DPPH
Abstrak

Cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.var capitata L) is one of many vegetables in Indonesia. There are two kinds of cabbage white and red cabbage. Phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity have been carried out of raw, steamed and boiled using DPPH. The result of phytochemical screening of white and red cabbage contains flavonoids and steroid/triterpenoid. The result of DPPH method showed that the IC50 value of raw red cabbage, steamed and boiled respectively were 35.84 ppm, 56.83 ppm, and 80.07 ppm. The IC50 value of raw, steamed and boiled white cabbage respectively were 161.23 ppm, 217.51 and 304.59 ppm. From the results showed that antioxidant activity raw red cabbage is the highest but lower than vitamin C as positive control (IC50 = 7,39 ppm)

Biological activity test of extracts and fractions there of keladi tikus leaves (Typhonium flagelliforme (Lodd.) Blume
Abstrak

Abstract: Typhonium flagelliforme (keladi tikus), from familia Araceae, is widely used as an alternative therapy to treat various cancer. In this study, the leaves of keladi tikus plant were extracted using methanol and then partitioned using n-hexane, ethylacetate, and n-buthanol sequentially. The phytochemical screening, and the biological activity using brine shrimp lethality (BSLT) were carried out in this research. The result of phytochemical screening showed that the leaves contained steroids, flavonoids, and saponins. The results of BSLT method showed that the most active extract was ethylacetate extract (LC50 = 55 µg/mL) and the lowest one was the n-buthanol extract (LC50 = 384 µg/mL). The ethyl acetate extract was tested for cytotoxic activity on T-47D cells using the MTT assay method. The IC50 value was 30 µg/mL. The ethylacetae extract was then fractioned by VLC using gradient elution (DCM, isopropanol, and methanol); the fractions were tested using BSLT. The results from the nine fractions showed that  the 5th fraction was the most active causing 97% mortality. It can be concluded that the ethyacetate extract is potential theraupetic bioactive compound.

Isolation and identification of a chemical compounds in n-hexane phase from the methanol extract of keladi tikus leaf (Typhonium flagelliforme Lodd. Blume, Araceae
Abstrak

Abstract: Keladi tikus (Typhonium flagelliforme (Lodd.) Blume ) is a plant which empirically has efficacy in treating cancer. In this study, n-hexane phase was fractionated using Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (dichloromethane; isopropanol 98:2 (1:1) and Column Chromatography (SiO2, n-hexane-ethylacetate =3:1) and then each fraction was tested for toxicity with BSLT (brine shrimp lethality test.) method. The most active fraction was purified by TLC preparative and the pure compound was identified by using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, IR Spectrophotometer, and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer. The result showed that fraction H.2.5 was the most active fraction with percent mortality 90% and one of the compounds contained in the n-hexane phase of keladi tikus leaves is phytol compound that had 91% similarity with the molecular formula C20H40O and the molecular weight of 296.31

Uji aktivitas antioksidan dan uji sitotoksik ekstrak n-heksana dan ekstrak metanol daun keladi tikus (Typhonium divaricatum L.Decne)
Abstrak

Cytotoxic and antioxidant activities of Typhonium divaricatum (L) Decne leaves extract have been explored. Preliminary phytochemical screening on the extract were carried out for the compound's profile. Biological activity was measured by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT), while cytotoxic activity was conducted on breast cancer cell line T-47D using MTT method. Antioxidant activity was measured by using DPPH free radical scavenging method. The results of phytochemical screening showed that the methanol extract contained flavonoid, saponin and steroid/triterpenoid compounds, meanwhile the n-hexane extract contained steroid/triterpenoid compounds only. The highest biological activity was found in methanol extract (LC50 =32,9 ppm). The highest cytotoxic activity was shown by n-hexane extract (32,50 ppm). The highest antioxidant activity using vitamin C as positive control was found in methanol extract (IC50 = 56,63 ppm). The preliminary results indicated that Typhonium divaricatum (L) Decne leave is potential  potential for anticancer and free radical scavenger.
